Our photo classes are a great way for photographers to expand their knowledge base and take their photography to the next level. Every digital camera purchased from Murphy's Camera includes free admission for two to one of our introductory classes. Murphy's Camera offers photography related classes from beginner to advanced, covering everything from basic composition to professional studio lighting. This introductory class is geared for the Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera beginner. This class covers both Digital SLR and Mirrorless cameras. Go beyond the basic auto settings and begin to explore the functions your camera offers you to help you create and achieve the results that you want. We'll discuss exposure modes, metering and other camera options that will help you capture more creative images.

Start to take more control of your Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera (DSLR or Mirrorless). This in-depth 3-hour course will show you how to master your camera's light meter, use apertures and shutter speeds to your advantage, select the right lens for your needs, and start to explore shooting with flash. File formats, ISO, and filters will also be discussed.

Point & shoot are only the first steps in understanding your compact digital camera. This class takes you through the basic controls found on every digital point & shoot camera, from controlling your flash, to taking better close-up photos. Along the way, we discuss the fundamentals of exposure control, as well as the best ways to store and share your images.

Admission for two is FREE with purchase of a camera from Murphy's Camera or $50.00 per person.

This two hour class is an introduction to the video functions of your camera. Learn the fundamentals of shooting video from the basic lighting techniques, creating dynamic visuals, audio monitoring, and uploading your work. We'll work through everything you need to start shooting the videos you want, whether its for a family event, your YouTube channel, or more!

Admission is $50 per person.

Adobe's Lightroom combines powerful tools for organizing, editing, and sharing your images into one program. This two-hour course explores how to get the most out of each of these facets of Lightroom, as well as the unique characteristics of the RAW file, and how Lightroom offers seamless integration with Adobe's Photoshop products. - Understanding the Develop module
- Sharing your images as prints, books, and slideshows

Students are required to bring their computers with a version of Lightroom installed. If you would like to explore both Adobe Lightroom (mobile version) and Adobe Lightroom Classic (desktop version), please have both programs installed on your computer prior to coming to class.

Do you enjoy feeding your backyard birds? Have you always wanted to get better photos of them? Then, please join us here at Murphy’s Camera on Bardstown Rd when professional nature photographer Mike Matthews shares his tips on wintertime bird photography. Mike uses many types of feeder systems, and he will demonstrate how to make natural looking set ups to take some amazing images.

This will be a fun time, and Mike is eager to share some of his best tips so that you can have a great time photographing birds right out your window this winter and throughout the year.

Things you will learn:
1.) Favorite food choices for the different species of birds you wish to attract.
2.) How to set up natural settings to make your photos look like they were taken in the wild.
3.) Remote camera triggers you can use while you camera is outside and you are warm on the inside.

Come join professional photographer Mike Matthews as he shows you different ways to capture amazing images of a variety of subjects. This "hands on" workshop will cover topics like how to use flash just inches from your subject without having to use a tripod. How to get the maximum depth of field and sharpness for small subjects, and how to use flash compensation to keep from blowing out the highlights.

Have you ever wanted to create beautiful artistic flower photos? Then this workshop is for you.Come and join Mike Matthews Saturday, October the 2nd from 10:00am till 12:00pm for this two hour hands on workshop. Mike will share some of his tips and techniques on how to take an ordinary flower photo, and turn it into an extraordinary masterpiece using textures and layers. Topics in this workshop include: Photoshop Plugins like Nik, Topaz, and Flaming Pear. You will learn how to apply different layers to your photos to make unbelievable images. In addition, I will teach you how to add a flood filter to make your flower look like it is reflecting in a pool of water. Also, you will learn how to add fog to your images, as well as other creative shapes and styles.

Cost of the workshop: $99 per person. Limited to 14 participants.

*Included in the workshop will be a thumb drive with two floral images, and two backgrounds in a JPG format so that you can apply some of the workflow tips shared during the workshop.

Prerequisite for the workshop:

Have some basic knowledge of Photoshop.

A laptop that you can bring with some version of Photoshop on it.  

Free trial downloads are available for the following plugins for Photoshop. It is suggested that you get at least one of these or all three if possible, as Mike will touch on a variety of techniques.
